Items You Should Bring
The Bahamas course includes indoor and outdoor activities and a lot of walking. Weather is variable. Check weather sites for guidelines. Be prepared for rain, warm and hot weather. The ECC School requires modesty in dress (no short shorts or short skirts, or low cut tops; dresses need shorts underneath). This not a resort community. You should dress respectably while moving through town. Bathing suits and exposed clothing are for the beach. Remember you are representing Ryerson University and ECC while in Abaco. The following items should be included in your luggage:
Personal:
- rain gear-umbrella and light rain coat
- walking sandals and/or comfortable walking shoes; flip flops for the apartments
- personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo etc.)
- sufficient clothing for the trip (there is laundry on the premises)
- bring a sweater for evenings
- a hat and sunglasses
- sunscreen
- any required medication
- light clothes, including longer shorts or skirts just above the knee for hot weather
- bathing suit and cover up
Should you forget something, Marsh Harbour has good pharmacies, but only a small number of clothing stores.
Activity Related:
- the in-field exercises will require that you have something for writing notes. Pens and pencils will also prove useful.
- unlocked cell phone and purchase a Bahamian sim card: Bell and Rogers roaming do work in Abaco
- laptops are useful for Skyping and for research while at the school
- anything else you think you need
Remember to check the weight allowance of both the international and national flights carriers. International flights usually allow one 50 pound bag free, plus a carry on. Bahamas Air can be more restrictive, allowing one 45 pound bag and a carry on. Local flights vary from 45-50 lbs.
